v3.0 another substantial update
- thru the generosity of Raimondo Taburet I could inject his animated birds into the scenery, mostly seagulls, but also some geese, pigeons and birds of prey. Seagulls are mainly along the coast and massed in vicinity of harbour/piers. Also around the anchored ships. (Birds are currently confined to the Cap Juby Area)
- 2 new sailships (Dutch Leusden & Dutch generic)
- wooden pier has now road colliders, you may walk or drive on it - like on the concrete pier
v2.0 big update
- 3 new sailships (Bounty, Vanguard, French Galleon)
- 10 new shipwrecks, all wooden this time. It's now shipwreck coast
- choice of pier with display of anchored sailships: concrete or wood, can be loaded/deleted separately
This is purely fictional scenery stuff spread in the vicinity of the historic Tarfaya/Cap Juby airport. Historic sailships, shipwrecks, piers, palms, an occasional oasis and BIRDS. Since what is a coast without seagulls? Exclusively for the slow-low-flying eye-candy lover. Like it or leave it.
Upon extraction you'll find 5 folders
- dh-sailships-capjuby-main: as the name suggests this is most of the stuff related to Cap Juby/Tarfaya.
- dh-cap-juby-pier-wooden: a fictious long wooden pier with a display of half a dozen different historic sailships, all highpoly. Watch your step when you walk the pier!
- dh-cap-juby-pier-concrete: a fictious larger and more modern pier with the same ships on display.
- dh-sailships-africa-ne-coast: contains sailship routes along the northeastern African coast from Tanger to Cap Juby and some anchored sailships in the ports of the biggest cities along this route.
- dh-cap-juby-birds: this folder contains all birds including the models.
You may activate/add/delete these parts (as well as my Canary Islands addon) in any combination. The two piers do not overlap. With the 1935 addon you may technically use both at the same time.
With MSFS default scenery the concrete pier overlaps with the current pier. One choice less.
Except for the birds this scenery contains no assets of its own, all assets are either MSFS or in my mandatory files.
MANDATORY (latest versions):
Sailships 3D Model Library (SimObjects)
Scilly sailships scenery (you DON'T need to cascade down the additional libs recommended there)
For the wooden pier: Dave's Seaplane base object library
RECOMMENDED
«1935 Cap Juby» in Marketplace (I am not affiliated to them)
WU-I Japan (rocks)
WU-XIII Oceania (palm trees)
I also recommend the Map enhancement with free Google maps. They currently (may change) show a white sand stripe along the coast which makes it look much better than the default ground textures.
For the wakes and better look of ships in the water increase Mean Ground Level wind to 5-10.
As a companion to the Tarfaya/Cap Juby scenery there's now a seperate addon with 20+ ship routes to and from the canaries and around their nearest islands Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. When you hop over to the them (65mi) you have a good chance to see a couple of sailships cruising on the open sea.
Enjoy!
P.S. The beautiful «The English Patient» liveries of the Tiger Moth and the Stearman that you see in some screenshots are by Jan Kees (my request). Of course, their appearance here is not correct, but desert is desert... ;-)
THE HISTORIC TARFAYA / CAP JUBY
When I looked for a playground for my recently converted shipwrecks Cap Juby was a pestering choice. It already has the wonderful historic airfield rendition by the «1935» Project including hangar, appropriate static aircraft, tents, camels, the French fort and nearby village Tarfaya. But it also suffers from the fact that Africa is MSFS' «Forgotten Continent» with poor DEM and detail and the notoriously ugly default coastline.
I focused my efforts on the little stretch of coast between the historic airfield and Tarfaya, a small village at that time. I set rocks and shipwrecks on the beach, put sailships (incl. a pirate) in front of the coastline, static and sailing, also a couple of shuttling rowboats. After that I looked at the waste land and decided to give it some color by adding palms (I allowed myself to even plant some within the French fort), an occasional oasis with pond - and even some more shipwrecks.
Keep in mind, this is all purely fictional stuff, eye candy.
Apart from a sailship anchored on a pier, my addon actually works in the default scenery. But then, what is your business in this place if it is not for the history that's bound to it? Mermoz, Guillaumet and Saint-Exupéry are only some of the magic names that come to mind. Cap Juby was part of the Northwest African postal route leg by «Latécoère», stretching from Tanger to Dakar.
It was the southernmost stopover within Morocco ─ lying just across the Canaries. Today the airfield goes by the name of nearby town Tarfaya (TFY).
