From Ny-Ålesund Roald Amundsen started his series of polar flights, first with a Dornier J Wal in 1925 and then again 1926 and 1928 in the airships Norge and Italia, respectively. Also Richard Byrd attempted a polar flight from Ny-Ålesund with his trimotor Fokker "Josephine Ford".
Bing maps does not provide a very detailed resolution of Spitzbergen and as I am not an artist either, I chose to provide only a most basic seaplane base with a water runway, 3 parking docks, buoys with night-lighting to mark the corners of the runway as well as the airship mast and an abused asset I have placed to mimick the Roald Amundsen monument. And some boats I have added.
So now if you want to step in Amundsen's shoes and go hunting for the North Pole, you can start from cold and dark (both of which at times is very true for Spitzbergen) in Ny-Ålesund.
This also serves to provide more seaplane bases in and around Europe so the upcoming seaplanes and flying boats get somewhere familiar to start from and to go to. If you need more seaplane bases, check out my other files.

thanks, appreciated!
As was waiting for NyA - because of my PLNs:

unfortunately the Arctic Ocean after WU12 is still ice-free so all polar flights with the Wal etal. make no sense...
