Athens is a coastal city in the Mediterranean and is both the capital and largest city of Greece. With a population close to four million, it is also the seventh largest city in the European Union. Athens dominates and is the capital of the Attica region and is one of the world's oldest cities, with its recorded history spanning over 3,400 years and its earliest human presence beginning somewhere between the 11th and 7th millennia BC.
Classical Athens was a powerful city-state. It was a centre for the arts, learning and philosophy, and the home of Plato's Academy and Aristotle's Lyceum. It is widely referred to as the cradle of Western civilization and the birthplace of democracy, largely because of its cultural and political influence on the European continent—particularly Ancient Rome. In modern times, Athens is a large cosmopolitan metropolis and central to economic, financial, industrial, maritime, political and cultural life in Greece. In 2021, Athens' urban area hosted more than three and a half million people, which is around 35% of the entire population of Greece.[citation needed]
Athens is a Beta-status global city according to the Globalization and World Cities Research Network, and is one of the biggest economic centers in Southeastern Europe. It also has a large financial sector, and its port Piraeus is both the largest passenger port in Europe, and the third largest in the world.
The Municipality of Athens (also City of Athens), which actually constitutes a small administrative unit of the entire city, had a population of 637,798 (in 2021) within its official limits, and a land area of 38.96 km2 (15.04 sq mi). The Athens Metropolitan Area or Greater Athens extends beyond its administrative municipal city limits, with a population of 3,722,544 (in 2021) over an area of 412 km2 (159 sq mi). Athens is also the southernmost capital on the European mainland and the warmest major city in continental Europe with an average annual temperature of up to 19.8 °C (67.6 °F) locally.
The heritage of the Classical Era is still evident in the city, represented by ancient monuments, and works of art, the most famous of all being the Parthenon, considered a key landmark of early Western civilization. The city also retains Roman, Byzantine and a smaller number of Ottoman monuments, while its historical urban core features elements of continuity through its millennia of history. Athens is home to two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the Acropolis of Athens and the medieval Daphni Monastery. Landmarks of the modern era, dating back to the establishment of Athens as the capital of the independent Greek state in 1834, include the Hellenic Parliament and the so-called "Architectural Trilogy of Athens", consisting of the National Library of Greece, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and the Academy of Athens. Athens is also home to several museums and cultural institutions, such as the National Archeological Museum, featuring the world's largest collection of ancient Greek antiquities, the Acropolis Museum, the Museum of Cycladic Art, the Benaki Museum, and the Byzantine and Christian Museum. Athens was the host city of the first modern-day Olympic Games in 1896, and 108 years later it hosted the 2004 Summer Olympics, making it one of the few cities to have hosted the Olympics more than once. Athens joined the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities in 2016.

I advise every MSFS-colleague, TO USE ONLY THIS scenery! Compared to this masterwork, the new Payware-Scenery is by far not worth the money (most of the city consists of ugly default-objects and the POIs are looking by far weaker). THANK YOU VERY MUCH, DEAR THALIXTE!!

Hey there - thank you for providing all these interesting new cities to explore!
Is it just me or do some of the buildings in Athens, especially on the outskirts of the covered area, have faces missing? See links:
Also, is this hill here meant to have just Autogen or is something wrong with my installation?

Finally, I notice in DX12 mode, black patches flicker on and off quickly on "tiles" of the PG. Happened on some of your other recent PG also but only in DX12. DX11 s fine. Is that just me too (you never know with MSFS!)

Great Work!!! Thanks so much!
I have been able to use your projects in VR and it has been working well!
Would you consider doing Rio de Janeiro? 😊 Not to down the other recent packages out there, they just don't seem as efficient.
Anyway again, enjoy your work and Thanks!!
Cheers,

Ευχαριστω πολυ φιλε
just one question in case you don't speak greek:
if google extends its coverage area to even more surrounding areas of athens, will you update your pack? 😀D
Amazing work!
I am greek but live in Germany and to be able to FINALLY see the places I love in Athens in so much detail comapred to before is amazing!!
Also if you plan on doing any kind of more detailed version, please tell me, I'd probably be the first to download (if I see it as the first person lol)
Thanks anyways and take care!
Thank you so much

Hello Thalixte,
thank you very much for this really superb work! Like all of your contributions to this forum: excellent! But the summery of the 4 files is a very demanding space on the hard disk. Question: Would it be an option for you to only offer the Acropolis as an outstanding highlite for the inbuilt Athens scenerey? The details in it are so realistic!
Greetings from Germany

Hello from Greece.Excellent work which transforms Athens and works just fine with F.Tampas LGAV airport
However,i see some textures flickering while flying above the city.
I have also seen this with other photogrammetry addons
Is it because of the sim ? (i don't use rolling or manual cache, ever)
Hello, and thank you for your support. The texture flickering pb is due to the DX12 implementation, which is still in beta stage. In DX11, you should not see any texture flickering at all. Best regards.

Fantastic job! The fps hit is negligible. I've already read the comments here about the expansion, which I'm all in for. However, there is a downtown area completely missing here. The Greek parliament is missing, along with Syntagma square and the whole Kolonaki just below Lycabettus hill. Would it be possible to add them too? Thanks!
Thks a lot. Unfortunately, this scenery relies on Google Earth data, and those data are missing in some parts of the city (for instance, near the parliament, as you noticed). Also, consider that i don't know Athens as you do, so these places you are mentioning are unknown to me, sorry. I try to do my best to satisfy your experience, but it is difficult to achieve a perfect representation of your beautiful city.
