This mod adds bug splats, window grunge, and preserves the original window texture as well.

There are only a handful of A320s out there with a clean windshield. Time to change that up. In my real life flying expereince, I have never had a clean windshield.

1.) Backup the original file(s).

2.) Select texture resolution in Fenix app. The app will overwrite files in the folder listed below. Then you will overwrite this file again with the mod.

3.) Replace this file found in: Community\fnx-aircraft-320\SimObjects\Airplanes\FNX320\texture.VC

There is an important comment below with some new information about this install, I have updated the above instructions as a result of this new info, please read that!

I will update this as a Community Folder mod on the 28th of June. Thanks!

The new glass will be present while using all liveries.

looks great but installation location is wrong. the 2 directories the creator put in the readme are just depositories for the fenix program to copy from. the actual files the game uses are in the simobjects aircraft folder in texture.vc

I've included it via the community folder and I can toggle it on and off as I please with "MSFS Addons Linker". Works perfectly! I don't like this backup-and-paste thing.

Create a folder structure like this:

"..\fnx-Bugs\SimObjects\Airplanes\FNX320\texture.VC"

and add your "A320_WINDOW_DIRT_ALBD.PNG.DDS" and "A320_WINDOW_DIRT_ALBD.PNG.DDS.json" files to the "texture.VC" folder.

In the fnx-Bugs folder, write a layout.json file like this:

Thanks for making this.

Would it be possible to make a version with a less prominent windshield wiper mark? IRL that would indicate someone running the wipers on a dry windshield which is a no-no...so less opacity on the markings might just "hint" at it (which I think would be more realistic).

You should try to change this yourself, it's is fairly easy to do. Open this file in paint.net which is free. Select the middle and bottom area of the windshield and make it 100% transparent or click the delete button on the selected area. Then save it as DDS with BC7 quality and overwrite your file.

After the last update I accidentally loaded up a flight without this mod, literally unplayable

On that note, any plans to turn this into an actual indexable mod at some point instead of the crude file swap?

No because the devs have plans to update the plane. Already this first update changed the file path so it is best we wait to do this until we are a few updates in at least. Thanks!

Thanks for the mod...can I ask what you are using to edit dds textures? I have Photoshop CC2021 and the nvidia texture tools plugin, but opening the original "A320_WINDOW_DIRT_ALBD.PNG.DDS" it shows up black with no color channels.

I use paint.net and substance painter. Within substance painter there is a complicated set of layers and adjustments to the opacity and base color layers. After exporting from substance I change the transparency of my additions and overlay it onto the original very well done windshield by the devs. This preserves the original windshield as well. Thanks!

Good mod but the windshield does not look really realistic anymore. It all looks very bright and pale with this mod. after restoring the original texture it looks again clearly more color!

btw, This mod introduce artefact (Pixelated cloud reflection on winshield in sky) due to (maybe) too much reflection and opacity.

No problem without mod, the sky is blue whithout these 'Ghost' clouds

Looks great, definitely an improvement, thanks.

Only suggestion I'd make is to possible turn down the transparency/refelctivity effect (however you call it). Makes windows look a bit too opaque on my screen, and ouside desaturated. Otherwise, awesome stuff!

Jokes aside, great little mod. I was worried it would be overkill but it's just right the right amount of extra filth on the windshield to add realism without being over the top.

That's more like it. I think Fenix done a good job making the cockpit look used. This just adds to it. Never was a fan of the shiny brand new cockpit look some planes seem to have in MSFS... The wear and tear gives it character and immersion imo. Thanks for this.

You are welcome. In regards to PMDG, the process of getting cockpit related mods approved is extensive and must go through Boeing. Turns out that doing that is a lot of back and forth messaging. The cockpit cannot be misrepresented so PMDG must seek approval. It can be quite a process so I am told. Although limiting, to me this is understandable. Anyhow, thanks 😊
