Information About KPIT:

Pittsburgh International Airport (IATA: PIT, ICAO: KPIT, FAA LID: PIT), formerly Greater Pittsburgh International Airport, is a civil–military international airport in Findlay Township and Moon Township, Pennsylvania. Located about 10 miles (15 km) west of downtown Pittsburgh, it is the primary international airport serving the Greater Pittsburgh Region as well as adjacent areas in West Virginia and Ohio.
The airport is owned and operated by the Allegheny County Airport Authority and sees numerous flights a day to destinations throughout North America. KPIT has four runways and covers 10,000 acres (4,000 ha).

Awesome scenery. Thank you! I love the Red, White, Blue construction crane. Initially I was worried static aircraft may interfere with my RealTraffic, but they are placed perfectly to add to the airport environment and not be in the gate area. Super nice!!

From my own testing and the testing of others it appears to be much more usable! Perhaps not perfect but much better and no more closed main taxiways! Now to retexture some of my older buildings!

Please dont hesitate to inform me of any issues you find while using the airport, especially with terraforming. I will try and fix them ASAP!

Great job on this airport but somebody needs to figure out this terrain flattening problem. Not just yours, others too. It was so much easier on FSX. The scenery on yours is really good though. Hope you can figure out the uneven surfaces.

Hey, could you let me know of the specific area with terrain issues? Ive reverted to the default terraforming with just a profile rectangle around the terminal area on this last V1.2 update. I havent had any major issues but if you are having an issue in a certain area I could fix it real quick and update the file!

I also wholeheartedly agree, the major downfall of the SDK is terraforming in general. Unfortunate since it is so important for scenery production!

Is there anyway around the "Path too long" error? I'd love to use this as KPIT is my virtual base.

This is the first ive heard of this error tbh, could you elaborate a bit?

I have all taxipaths implemented and labeled correctly, the issue is I cant get the runways to work without an error so AI traffic is not working. I apologize if those issues are causing your error. Im trying to fix it ASAP

I tried to download it again, still the same. I tried to "skip" the errors, but it just results in the same stock, shitty, KPIT. It's probably something wrong on my end.

try changing the install path of the community folder in msfs settings to somewhere else like a second hard drive or a folder in C:/

So I downloaded it again only this time I saved it to my desktop. Then I copied it from the desktop and pasted it in the community folder and there were no issues.

Got this scenery initially at version 1.0 and saw some potential, but at the time couldn't really see using it. Now, with V1.2 It's a massive improvement and WAY better then the default MSFS version.

V1.2 notes:

Good- Gates correctly labeled and you spawn at them properly. "Moon Township" tower and Air force/Air National Guard areas are much improved! Main terminal a lot better looking then default.

Bad- No taxiway labels at all. Still some "under construction" areas. Landside terminal still not modeled, and the road to it looks terrible.

Overall this is a huge improvement over the default MSFS scenery, and I can say now it's a must have for anyone flying into/out of KPIT. My suggestions for the next update are to fix the taxiway signs and try to remove the "under construction" areas. But I'm glad to see someone properly fixing KPIT!

Edit: Edited my response as I saw in this latest version Taxiway N is in fact smoothed and usable! Makes this even more of a must have!!!

Hey DarkRider,

For your first bad point, I will be fixing the taxiway labels and the taxiway paths for AI traffic for the next update. The newest update V1.2 has removed the under construction areas and fixed a majority of the taxiway issues. (Especially the November taxiway).

Landside will come eventually, but I cannot promise anything for that. However, with the removal of my DEM terraforming, there should be a low res landside area generated by the sim that should suffice for now.

I hope you are able to download V1.2 or V1.3 in the coming days to check out the positive improvements and usability!

Thanks for the response! I actually did install the most recent one. I'm going to update my post because I was incorrect about Taxiway N (That's a HUGE fix and I didn't realize it was in fact smoothed out)

Good effort BUT..............No support for AI traffic and parking assignments. Is there a way to take out the static aircraft to make room for actual AI assignments? Thanks

Hey, I will be attempting to fix this ASAP. Still trying to find a solution as I am getting a error when I try to make a taxipath into a runway to complete the taxi system at the airport. All taxiways are correctly labeled now, so once I find a fix itll be an easy adjustment to get full taxi support for AI aircraft. I apologize for the inconvenience!

Sadly this looks like a good project that has tanked and very incomplete... No updates, needs major major major fixes and has no AI Traffic to gates... This sucks... Hoping for a payware complete and thorough one in the future...

You are free to model your own scenery and utilize it. Ive spent months on this project and am preparing for flight school for the Army to progress my own personal career goals. I do not have much time to put into this project at the moment and at its current state it IS usable by many. You seem to be one of the few having serious issues and to that I cannot help. Ive hand modelled every custom model by myself in my freetime. Ive tried DEM terraforming and custom terraforming trying to fix issues for weeks. Ive spent tons of hours texturing, SDK troubleshooting, and modelling for free.

I realize you are the "creator" of the google earth based scenery of the same airport and you may feel a certain way about my scenery but I have tried as much as I can to provide a good freeware. I did not have to custom model this entire airport but I did because its a passion of mine. Perhaps you do not need to download this airport and use it. Because you seem to be my biggest critic. Hope you find what you are looking for. Cheers!

I am the critic for this is my home airport. It is almost complete, but in the process of completion you made things worse and there has been no effort. You have been open with this project on life circumstance and said it would be handed off. I remained silent and with not even one correction that means this has come to a halt and it is very unfortunate. If you do not have time, we understand... Hand it off and or ask for help. This had great potential, but if it is not complete then the efforts are null and void... You take my criticism personally and that is not my problem... My statement is accurate. Good Luck in life pursuit and please hand this for completion/corrections so that us who rely and appreciate your efforts so that this is true to life. The only thing that the Asobo generic has wrong or lacking is game generated terminal building and an unmapped AI traffic pattern.

I switch attention from my Fairbanks (PAFA) and Pittsburgh (KPIT) sceneries every big update. Its how I keep both projects going. Ive also been working on a third while I waited for an effective fix for the terraforming on KPIT. It is now fixed properly and there should be nothing else to complain about. Ive used the Airport multiple times in the last week and have had no usability issues. Ive had friends use it with shared cockpit and on their own. Ive even seen YouTubers use it with no major issues. What I have done is released the FIRST realistically handcrafted KPIT that has existed for any Flight Simulator thus far. It's not perfect, and it still needs some work. But the fact is most developers focus on larger/more popular airports. I wanted to give KPIT attention that it has not gotten in this community, and in that respect I was successful.

Im a humble and timid developer who just wants to bring these airports to the community while still getting through my personal life. I dont have a ton of time working on these projects and im happy it only took one and a half years for both projects to be pretty much completed and released. Im sorry it did not fit your requirements initially, but a little positivity is helpful. This is my hometown airport and also my place of work, so it personally means alot to me aswell.

Awesome scenery, used to work for US Airways back in the day when PIT was a hub. It looks good. Only issue is a CTD upon takeoff 28R sadly. in the latest SU9.

Scenery looks very good. There is a terrain issue on 28R. There's a "speedbump" in line approx with taxiway C2. It kind of launched me in the air on landing. Thanks for the efforts.

Yes there is! The next objective is to model a 3D interior of the Terminal building and complete the landside around the same time! Limitations of my 3D modeling skills meant I could not effectively model an interior before v1.0 but ive slowly been learning the methods and tactics and am confident I can pull it off. Hopefully by V2.0 you will see a fully detailed landside area with parking garage! The basic building may be completed by V1.5 or so.

Amazing scenery! Thanks so much for brining my "home town" airport to life!

The only feedback that I have is (a) I don't see any taxi/runway signs, and (b) some of the painted runway markings (on the asphalt) are facing the wrong direction - i.e. I'd expect them to be facing the taxiway, so that I'd see them as I enter the runway, not facing the runway - I don't need to know what runway I'm leaving. 😊

Thank you! I have also noticed that my runway guard lights sometimes dont show up, im actually unsure of why this is. I have found that if I restart the flight when im at the gate they show up but its a very confusing issue! As for the taxiway markings being wrong way, this is something I have to fix soon. The airport edge lines and markings are actually default with my centerlines being placed by me. I will have to redo every line at the airport to fix this so I am looking at alternatives at the moment. If I have some extra time I might buckle down and do full custom linework!

Im glad you are enjoying the scenery! The next task is to overhaul the terraforming to fix bumps and uneven taxiways all across the airport. Unfortunately this is my biggest hurdle and im still finding solutions!

Your scenery really is a fantastic upgrade to the default. It's actually an inspiration for me - I'm planning to learn the necessary skills to make similar contributions (and depending on how long that takes, maybe even help you with this airport!)

Great scenery but 28R needs some work! Taxiway B has a bunch of bumps, but trying to depart 28R almost seems impossible. About half way down the runway has a massive bump and it launches the aircraft.

I apologize for this inconvenience. Unfortunately the Terraforming has been the absolute hardest thing to make work in this project. I used DEM data to generate the Terraforming rectangles and unfortunately at the intersections of multiple rectangles it can create bumps, sudden drops, and potholes. I will try my best to get this to work, and ultimately reopen the taxiway behind the blue hangars. Again, I apologize and hope you can use this airport in the future!

Nice work on the airport making it pretty but you have one glaring problem. When you land and contact ground for taxi instructions it just tells you to taxi to general aviation parking or such, no taxi instructions, no specific taxi location, no taxi pathway arrows. In a large airport like KPIT ground instruction is critical to avoid road blocks on the taxi way.
