Iditarod checkpoint #8
McGrath: Population 400 -- McGrath is located in the interior of Alaska. The only way to get here is by airplane, unless you’re crazy enough to drive a snow-machine or mush your dog team on the Historic Iditarod Trail. The airport covers an area of 641 acres at an elevation of 341 feet. It has two runways: 16/34 is 6,000 by 100 feet with an asphalt surface and 5/23 is 2,000 by 60 feet with a gravel surface. It handles an average of 30 flights per day, 80% commercial, and 20% general aviation.
McGrath Airport is one of 24 airstrips and airports on the Iditarod Trail that runs from Anchorage to Nome. The Iditarod Airforce is a group of pilots who volunteer their time and planes to service the 24 race checkpoints. Their missions include delivering food for the teams, picking up injured sled dogs, and many other logistical services for the volunteers who manage the checkpoints.
I am trying to acurately represent them all using aerial photos and images I find on the internet and from the data on the AirNav and SkyVector web sites.
To learn more about the Iditarod, it's airports, and the race itself, go to the Iditarod.com website.
Airport Information:
AirNav: PAMC
FAA Identifier: MCG
Installation
-Copy the tn-airport-pamc-mcgrath-airport folder inside of the .Zip file into your MSFS Community folder.
Many thanks to the creators of the Required and Recommended libraries. If you have not previously installed these libraries in your Community folder, some objects may not be visible in your sim. Remember, you only have to install these one time. Also, go to the sim marketplace and download the free UK2000 Scenery Common Library. All Microsoft World Updates should be installed also.
Easter Egg is hidden.

This is an interesting read related to McGrath when you get the chance :https://nypost.com/2019/07/06/busted-phone-leaves-man-in-alaskan-nightmare-fending-for-life-in-last-frontier/
Now I'm gonna retrace the route from where he ended up to McGrath.

1.1.5 Temporary fix until SU10 availability.
Prior to SU8 I had created 20 airports in Alaska that were all missing from the sim. Good news: SU8 added a ton of new default airports. Bad news: it broke many of my built airports, so anyone who downloaded them after SU8 saw messed up runways, aprons, vegetation, etc. I will be re-editing all of them and republishing them to be SU10 compatible. TBA.
Also, if you are a Little NavMap, Navigraph, ForeFlight, etc user, you may have to reload these there as well.

I do not understand how RAR files are extracted and installed. Could somebody give me a step by step instruction on how to install this scenery

A common way to install RAR files is with an app called WinRAR.
However, I am converting all my uploads to .ZIP files.
If you do not prefer to use WinRAR, check back a bit later for the .zip version.
Thanks.

I really like your additions to this part of Alaska - it can totally do with some more lively small airports! I like that yours look as if they are really used by the local community.
However I have noticed that I seem to be missing some objects/textures in your sceneries. For example here in McGrath I can't see the two hangars next to the big green quonset hut hangar. I can only see their interior (the parked plane, the lift, the shelves, etc.) Could you please tell me what I have to install to see them? (I have Dave's libraries installed, btw)

Thanks for reporting this issue. I do not see that problem on my display. However, I am digging into this to locate the problem and resolve it. I'm sure you are not the only one. I have a couple of ideas. It may be related to the Graphic Settings in your configuration. Or, it might be related to Orbx Alaska Mesh, although that should only affect terrain.
If anyone else is having this same "missing building" problem, please let me know.
Stay tuned.

Thank You Serge.
I am trying to make the airport infrastructure as accurate as I can, based on the sources I find on the internet. I am not a graphics artist, so I rely on the object libraries that are available for the SDK. In some cases when there is doubt about the real infrastructure, I have to make an educated guess. If you spot an obvious error, or see a possible correction, please let me know. I really appreciate input.

Thanks! I'm enjoying learning how to do this. Microsoft left so many Alaska airports out of the sim.
