Bergen, historically Bjørgvin, is a city and municipality in Vestland county on the west coast of Norway. As of 2021, its population is roughly 285,900. Bergen is the second-largest city in Norway. The municipality covers 465 square kilometres (180 sq mi) and is on the peninsula of Bergenshalvøyen. The city centre and northern neighbourhoods are on Byfjorden, 'the city fjord', and the city is surrounded by mountains; Bergen is known as the "city of seven mountains". Many of the extra-municipal suburbs are on islands. Bergen is the administrative centre of Vestland county.
This pack does not contain a full photogrammetry extract of the city but rather focuses on a few emblematic or massive buildings to keep acceptable size and performances for lower configurations.
It contains the following mods:
-Håkonshallen is a medieval stone hall in Bergen and is part of Bergenhus fortress. It was first built as a royal residence and banquet hall under Håkon Håkonsson's rule of Norway (1217–1263). The building fell into disrepair during the Middle Ages and from 1683 the building was used as a granary. In 1873 , the restoration work was started by architect Christian Christie . The hall was decorated on the inside with frescoes , tapestries and furniture according to Gerhard Munthe's drawings ( 1910 - 1916 ). The explosion at Vågen in 1944 led to extensive damage to Håkonshallen. After new archaeological investigations, Håkonshallen was rebuilt in the years 1955 - 1961.
-Grieghallen (Grieg Hall) is a 1,500 seat concert hall located on Edvard Griegs' square? It was named in honor of Bergen-born composer Edvard Grieg, who served as music director of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra from 1880 until 1882. It serves as the home of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra. The building was designed in modernist architecture style by the Danish architect Knud Munk. Construction began in 1967 and was finished by May 1978.
-Kjøttbasaren is an iconic building in the centre of Bergen. The city's Bazaar, as the building was originally called, was built to control the market trade in Bergen. It is now a restaurant.
-Den Nationale Scene (National Theater) is the largest theatre in Bergen. Den Nationale Scene is also one of the oldest permanent theatres in Norway. Opened under the name Det Norske Theater in 1850, the theatre has roots dating back to its founding on the initiative of the Norwegian violinist Ole Bull. In 2001 the building was restored almost to its original shape. Today the theatre houses three stages/venues and presents approximately 20 productions each year, both international and national classics, musicals and contemporary drama, as well as children's theatre. Since 1993, the theatre has been state property.
-Mariakirken (St Mary's Church) is a parish church of the Church of Norway located in the Bryggen area. The large, gray stone church was built in a long church style using designs by an unknown architect. It is the only remaining of the twelve churches and three monasteries that were built in Bergen between its beginnings during the reign of Olav Kyrre (1066–1093, traditionally 1070) and the end of the twelfth century The construction of the church itself is believed to have started in the 1130s or 1140s and completed around 1180, making this church the oldest remaining building in the whole city of Bergen. There have been a few fires that burned the church, as well as several renovations and reconstructions, most recently in 2013.
This pack also contains the Hordaland Fylkeskommune and Media City mods to cover tall modern buildings located on Lars Hilles gate.
